Rockland Neighbourhood Association:  Minutes of the Board

Directors Present:   Janet Simpson (JS), Bob June (BJ), Dave Clark (DC), John Edwards (JE),  John Caldwell (JC)

 

 

Regrets: Councillor Ben Isitt (BI), David Hambleton (DH), Bill Brooks (BB), Jane Wheatley (JW).

Absent: Norman Clark (NC),

 

Summary of motions and actions:

Action - consult with City to get correct protocol for inviting first nations participation in Rockland 150 Celebration.

Action – JE will phone Davey Tree Service to get written confirmation of discount.

Action - JS will check about parking in front of building Oak Bay Ave. @ Richmond

Action - need a generic letter from RNA president to assist canvassers in solicitation of door prizes.

Davey tree service 12% discount. Wait until we get it in writing before we publicise the offer.

ACTION – JE will phone Davey Tree Service to get written confirmation of discount.

 

  1. Communications Received

1.     JS applied for Neighbourhood base grant

2.     JC completed annual report for filing with BC Registry Services.

 

  1. Committee Reports

Land Use

Malczyk application for 2 new buildings on their property – Land Use Committee will sent a letter indicating their lack of support.

 

Warren Gardens – application to add a second storey – proponent will attend LUC meeting in June.

 

Richardson - application for Garden Suite with entry from public path. LUC is formulating a letter.

 

Oak Bay at Richmond  - ACTION JS will check about parking in front of building – traffic an issue if user must back onto Oak Bay or Richmond.

 

Next Land Use Committee will include presentation from  City on OCP – Board members invited.

 

150 Year celebration

Preparing news release courtesy Elizabeth Hazel of Craigdarroch Castle Society. List of events, cooperators.

Get the date out to Public notification Services – Y.A.M.,  Focus, Event planners, Calendars etc.

AGGV – Rockland painter-in-residence, book release;

Hallmark Society Architectural Kiosk, Walking tours;

Classic Car presentation at Government house or on Manor Road.

Langham Court fashion show , movies;

Craigdarroch open house;

Passport – stamped at participating venues grants a contest entry

 

Courtesy invitation to appropriate first nation – consult with City to get correct protocol.

Next meeting May 23rd at Langham Court.

 

                        Communications

                       

Heritage awards May  1st.  1015 Moss Street award of merit; Fabulous Victorians – communications award.

 and Shawnigan Lake – Kinsoll Trestle – the “Louies Award”.

 

                        Social

Wine and cheese may not happen this summer – Government House staff will report.

 

                        Membership – 9 new memberships. Welcome committee (Eileen Nurmi and Susan Simpson) report 2 visits this past month.

 

                        Traffic – no report

 

.                       Garden – Snowberry control continuing; Deer targeting young arbutus.

                        Police board meeting – Meeting May 1st Communities presenting concerns, but there were few complaints. New system  Cop logic – on-line reporting system for crimes, ncluding traffic offenses and graffiti.

 

 

  1. New Business

JC moving to Lake Quamichan pending sale of home. JS approached CS to take over as treasurer for the remainder of the year. Deb Semmens may take on the role next year.

 

 DC  will develop photo contest idea and present to the next 150 meeting.
