Summary of motions and actions:

 

Motion – Add Bob June to the list of signing officers on RNA bank accounts.

Action – Send out 2004 Strategic Plan to membership, with notice that we intend to refresh it this year

Action – Re-establish contact with Central Middle School greenways group

  1. Presentation from Matthias Reinicke

·      Rockland resident, teams with spouse working as Lime Design

·      They assemble larger teams, depending on the scope of a given project

·      Interpretive signage, wayfinding (directions), research, graphic design, sign production and installation

·      Worked with Federal, Provincial agencies, City of Victoria, Government House,

·      Two options for final product – Powder-coated aluminum, and HPL (plastic laminate). Depending on quantity, size, ballpark cost per sign (design through installation) is in the $1000 range.

·      Possible applications in Rockland –

o   Wayfinding

o   Historic homes

o   Natural history, Greenways

 

  1. Councillor’s report

·      Johnson Street Bridge – cost overrun due to delay in design finalization.

·      1322 Rockland – rezoning not required for current use. Planning Department representative will meet with Land Use Committee at their request to clarify and discuss. Present entitlement based on approvals from 40 years ago.

·      Composting  - interim solution is sending food waste to Richmond BC at a rate of $140/tonne. Looking for a competitive solution within the CRD.

·      April 24th Council will deal with Active Transportation Initiative and with targeted speed reductions, including Richmond Avenue 40 km/h. reports on those two items will be available April 17th.

·      Strategic Planning

Motion   to distribute the 2004 Strategic Plan document to the membership list serve, with a message that we intend to update the strategy in the context of the new Official Community Plan, and present the results at the AGM in February 2015.        (DC/IM)                                                                     Carried unanimously

o   ACTION – Request an email address (strategy@rockland.bc.ca) to receive input from the membership

 

 

  1. Committee Reports

 

Land Use

o   1670 Richmond – Request to convert Anglican Rectory to a pre-school for up to 48 children. IM drafting a letter to the City.

o   1745 Rockland – Letter to City sent April 8th.

o   1535 Despard – 2nd stove is allowed, but second dwelling unit is not allowed.

o   Future Community Meetings should include maps, and written description of what is currently permitted, to give attendees context for developers’ presentations.

o   Amenities resulting from density bonuses – City has a contractor developing a report on the situation.

 

Social.

·      DC reports that the 3rd Annual Rockland-wide Garage Sale will be held on August 16th (3rd Saturday in August). Fairfield/Gonzales is planning a community Garage Sale day, possibly in June.

 

Traffic

·      NC still trying to get digital speed reader board for use on Rockland and on Richardson.

 

Environment

·      DC should re-establish contact with Central Middle School Greenways group

 

Woodland Garden

o   Central Middle School  students will complete signage for native plant species.

 

Membership and Welcome

·      Member cards distributed.

·      5  Welcome committee visits this past month
