Meeting of the Board of Directors

January 10th, 2012

Motion – DC to work with Olaf to set a date for evening talk in March, and publicise the talk at the AGM.

Motion – Board authorize HE to apply for $5000 for Celebration Grant to cover costs of traffic control, toilets, garbage, food?…

Supplementary answer – BI working on process with Planning to get timely access to more development information to NA/CA Land Use Chairs.

 Supplementary Answer –there was a bottleneck for information out of Planning Department (required to route through city mgr. or Mayor previously). BI will meet with Deb Day and the relevant planner.

1.     AGM Planning

1.     Confirm February 8th   7:30 PM at Grace Lutheran.

2.     Speaker - 3 new councilors panel on Rockland Future? Shellie Gudgeon, Lisa Helps, Ben Isitt

1.     Need format, 3 prepared questions, given to speakers ahead of time. E.g., steps to protect heritage values. Then open questions to the floor.  ACTION send draft questions

3.     Olaf Nieman on remote sensing LiDAR and HSS - will speak in March – organize a separate event and publicise the talk at the AGM. Include a few images in a display board on the greenways / Pemberton Trail  / Urban Forest. (Roger works in the  Geography Lab and thinks that cooperator Terra in Sydney may already have some useable data.)

2.     150 Year celebration

1.     Temporary closure of Rockland – “Rockland of Ages”

2.     Jane Wheatley (Chair) and Bob June met with 6 others -Sue Simpson, (get kids involved) Clark Hartwick and Deb Semmens, Ethelyn Rankin, John and Helen Edwards – Walking tours, Tochik Ratowski, Langham Court (Vintage Fashion Show).. Peripheral Activities running off Rockland. Vintage Car Club display. John Hughes of Craigdarroch Castle is enthusiastic – kids activities on their lawn. Jon Tupper, AGGV – book launch “The Associates”. Rockland Artists – local artists, juried.

3.     Could Jon Tupper offer some staff experience in applying for street closure?

4.     Dates – summer too soon, go for September. Moss to St. Charles. Reserve constables for intersections. City provides barricades. Insurance (Current Policy with Fairfield applies? Sufficient?). Toilets. Helen Edwards (HE) offers to apply for the grant to cover traffic, toilets, garbage, food ….

Land Use

1064 Beverly Place rezoning February 13th at the Fairfield Center  on Fairfield Road

 

1770 Rockland  “Biggerstaff Wilson” home -  development proposal – extension, stairwells, elevators at the back, Garage in front? Variances requested for height.

 Committee will draft letter for the Board’s signature regarding requested variances and forward to board for approval. Designate garden as heritage in exchange for variances – 26th January for Planning Committee meeting.

 

1597 Despard – Information received regarding Floor Space Ratio (FSR) Height 9.3 metres -  First and Second Floors total 438.74 metres squares (Basement excluded by definition). Lot size is 932 m2   FSR = .47

 

Verrinder –patio – tree reduces impact, Neighbour Maggie Thompson OK with development.

 

 

                        Communications - Newsletter content deadline January 15th.

 

                        Social - Plan for a March 2012 evening lecture from Dr. Olaf Niemann, possibly held at Grace Lutheran.

 

                        Membership – Welcome committee (Eileen Nurmi and Susan Simpson) report no visits this past month.

 

                        Traffic – BJ – hedges obscure some intersections.  Send hot spots to Aimee Botje, Norman Clark for consideration by traffic committee.
